Natural Healing with Essential Oils


Did you know that essential oils are not just nice to smell but also have amazing healing properties? Many ailments can be treated with essential oils without any of the nasty side effects of drugs. Of course, there is a place for conventional medication but would you not rather try a natural form of healing first? I know I would and having experienced the incredible benefits, oils are my first port of call. You can use oils topically (rub them on the area where they are needed), aromatically (inhale them from the bottle, your hands or via a diffuser) and through ingestion (check for every oil that they are suitable for ingestion). Oils can work on a physical and emotional level. I recommend only using the best quality, therapeutic grade essential oils. The oils I use are from doTERRA and they are Certified Pure Therapeutic Grade oils, ethically sourced from optimal geographic locations and soil conditions. Here are 10 of the essential oils I use most and some of their benefits:

Lemon oil – Cleans and freshens

  • Add a drop to honey to soothe a dry or sore throat.

  • Diffuse in a room to neutralise odours and elevate mood 


  • Use to clean kitchen counters

  • Take internally with water as an antioxidant and detoxifier

Lavender – All things calming

  • Diffuse in a room or apply topically to calm anxiety and soothe emotions

  • Apply topically to soothe irritated skin and bruises

  • Massage on bottom of feet before bedtime

  • Apply to calm insect bite

Peppermint – Cooling and invigorating

  • Inhale deeply to invigorate lungs and increase alertness

  • Apply to neck and forehead to calm headaches 


  • Add to water in a spray bottle and mist body when overheated 


  • Take internally with water to alleviate digestive discomfort

Digestzen-Digestive blend – Digestive support

  • Rub on stomach to ease digestive discomfort including upset stomach, constipation nausea or motion sickness

  • Take internally at meal times to support healthy, comfortable digestion

  • Apply to the bottom of feet of children to ease digestive issues

Breathe – respiratory blend

  • Apply topically to chest and neck to promote clear breathing

  • Diffuse at bedtime for a more restful sleep

  • Apply to chest or bottom of feet for seasonal allergies

Melaleuca – First aid for skin

  • Apply to skin blemishes and rashes

  • Use with shampoo for healthy scalp and hair

  • Apply to affected areas with fungal issues

  • Treat wounds such as cuts, blisters and boils by applying to the affected area

Deep Blue – soothing blend, muscle and joint support

  • Apply directly to aching joints

  • Rub on muscles before and after exercise to reduce discomfort

  • Use with fractionated coconut oil for a deep tissue massage

Oregano – Natural Immune Support

  • Take drops internally for immune support

  • Fungal infection and warts, apply to affected area repeatedly until treated

  • Gargle with water at first signs of cold

  • Gargle with water for sore throat

On Guard – protective blend, natural defense

  • Proven to destroy bacteria and viruses

  • Diffuse in a room to purify the air

  • Dilute and gargle morning and night as a protective mouth rinse

  • Apply several drops to soles of feet to boost immune system
