Essential Oils for Teenagers

Essential oils are not just great for your wellbeing but also safe and effective for managing issues that teenagers regularly struggle with (and which can make your life fairy unpleasant too…). Use an electrical diffuser to spread some oily love and watch the magic happen.

 

Stress and agitation

 

Lavender is not only very calming, it is also the oil of communication so it may help open them up and talk about what is bothering them. Peace (reassuring blend) is a mix of essential oils that smells divine and promotes feelings of contentment, composure, and reassurance when anxious feelings overwhelm their emotions.

 

Worries and fear

 

Teens are often nervous as a result of social interactions and worry about friends, future, etc. Juniper berry alleviates fear, is calming and grounding. Bergamot helps with confidence. The reassuring Peace blend is also perfect to ease anxiety.

 

Grumpiness

 

We can all be grumpy sometimes but teens seem to be particularly prone to foul moods. Diffuse wild orange oil to lift the mood.

 

Bad skin

 

Bad skin can be a very bad confidence zapper. Lavender and Melaleuca are very effective for clearing the skin. My daughter swears by the doTERRA HD Clear skin range (face wash, rollerball with oil blend and moisturiser).

 

Tension and muscle ache

 

Teenagers can suffer from tension as a result of exercise, or sitting in the same position playing computer games or studying. There are some beautiful oil blends that can help soothe achy muscles. Deep blue is a soothing blend containing Wintergreen, Camphor, Peppermint, Ylang Ylang, Helichrysum, Blue Tansy, Blue Chamomile, and Osmanthus work together to soothe and cool. Past tense is another soothing blend containing Wintergreen Leaf, Lavender Flower, Peppermint Plant, Frankincense Resin, Cilantro Herb, Marjoram Leaf, Roman Chamomile Flower, Basil Leaf, and Rosemary Leaf essential oils. Massage into shoulders, neck, and back for a cooling, soothing sensation and to feel calm and grounded. This one is also great to apply before exams and public speaking.

 

Study

 

To help with focus and knowledge retention use the InTune focus blend. Helping to enhance the senses and sustain focus, the InTune blend is perfect for staying on task when you are trying to study or concentrate. It contains Amyris Bark, Patchouli Leaf, Frankincense Resin, Lime Peel, Ylang Ylang Flower, Hawaiian Sandalwood Wood, Roman Chamomile Flower essential oils. Another great oil for focus and memory retention is Rosemary.

 

Sleep

 

Not many teenagers are getting enough sleep. Restful blend to the rescue! Serenity restful blend has a calming and relaxing aroma. This perfectly balanced, tranquil blend can be felt immediately, transporting the user to a state of blissful repose. It combines essential oils renowned for their ability to lessen feelings of tension and calm emotions, and support a restful sleep when used aromatically. Apply one to two drops to the hands and inhale throughout the day to help reduce worry from life’s daily stressors, or diffuse at night for restful sleep. The addition of Cedarwood, Ho Wood, and Vetiver essential oils gives dōTERRA Serenity a grounding aroma that calms the mind and soothes the senses.

 

Beat the bugs

 

Teens are very prone to pick up bugs. Ward them off with On Guard protective blend. On Guard is a powerful blend that provides a natural and effective alternative for immune support when used internally. It protects against environmental and seasonal threats with essential oils known for their positive effects on the immune system when ingested or diffused.

 

Respiratory issues and allergies

 

If they do catch a cold or if they suffer from breathing difficulties use the Breathe blend to keep the airways open. For allergies, including hay fever, use Lavender, Lemon and Peppermint together. This is nature’s anti-histamine.

 

Smells

 

As a result of raging hormones teens can be pongy. Diffuse Lemon oil to clean the air or spray in smelly shoes.
